      Dalam soal structure TOEFL ITP diatas, prase THEREBY HELPING TO PREVENT EROSION AND REGULATE THE FLOW OF STEAMS hanyalah keterangan yang menerangkan kailimat sebelumnya, sehingga tidak terdapat unsur Subject dan Verb. 

Subject dalam kalimat tersebut adalah FORESTS yang merupakan noun plural (jamak) dari kata  Forest. Sedangkan Verb dalam kalimat tersebut adalah STABILIZE yang artinya adalah menstabilkan. Jadi unsur subject dan verb dalam soal diatas sudah lengkap. Oleh karena itu yang kita butuhkan adalah hanya NOUN yang berfungsi sebagai object untuk verb STABILIZE, karena STABILIZE adalah adalah verb (kata kerja) transitif, maka verb ini memerlukan objek.  Sehingga jawaban yang paling tepat adalah C. The traditional virtue of telling the truth in all situations is increasingly doubted by many in today’s world. many believe that telling the truth is not always the best policy when dealing with people. Moreover, the line of a “truth” is becoming more and more vague. This essay will explore the importance of telling the truth in relationships between people.

We all understand that often the truth is offending and may not be a very nice thing to both hear or say. lies or white lies often have their advantages. the manipulation of white lies is the most obvious the business world. how many times have we heard that some product is “the finest” or “the cheapest”? How many times have we heard that products have such and such “magical functions”? Advertising is about persuasion, and many would agree that if a company is to tell the absolute truth about it’s products, no one would be interested in even having a look at the products.

The same logic applies to human relationships. If your friend had worn a newly purchased dress on her birthday and energetically asked you if it was a worthy buy, would you freely express your opinion that you had never seen a dress as the one she’s currently wearing? and spoil her birthday? unarguably, hiding (entirely or particularly) the truth in some situations can be quite handy indeed. confrontations and disputes can seemingly be avoided.

However, there is always the risk factor of the truth emerging sooner or later when telling an untruth. the basic trust in any relationships(businessman/customer, friends, parents/children) will be blotched, and would have an impact on the future relationship between both parties. the story of the “the boy who cried wolf” fully illustrates the consequences of telling untruths. no one will believe you when you’re telling the truth. your word will have no weighting.

In addition, another “bad factor” of telling untruths is that you have absolutely no control over when the truth(of previous untruths) will emerge. Untruths breed pain in both parties: tears when the truth is uncovered after a period of time; fear and the burden of sharing a “secret”. In the long run, it seems that hiding the truth is not beneficial to either party.

Everyone hates betrayal. Even if it is the trend to occasionally hide the truth in relationships, it is strongly recommended that not to follow that trend as the risk and the consequences of the truth unfolded overwhelms the minimal advantages one can derive from not telling the truth. after all, it is understood that relationships are founded on “trust” which goes hand in hand with “truth”. Indeed telling the truth is the most important consideration in any relationship between people.

After I grow up and learn that lying is not good, so I always try to tell the true. It made me feel a lot better than before. In the conclusion, I agree that people should always tell the true to make a good relationship ;however, I think the most important about telling the true is time. If people tell the true in the wrong time, they can be in trouble anyway. The key is tell the true in the appropriate time.

As we all know superficially, team work and team spirits are quite popular in today’s business world and also the fashionable terms. However, the lecturer find deeper and hiding results.

Firstly, the working results of team members can’t be fully valued. For example, if a team member does nothing in the process of team discussion, decision making and final practice, his or her work delinquency will not be recognized because we only emphasize team work. Also, the real excellent and creative member’s work might be obliterated for the same reason.

Secondly, the team work might lose its value when team members are leading by several influential people in the group. One of the essential merits of team is to avoid the individual wrong. But one or two influential or persuasive people will make the team useless.

Thirdly, team work often become the excuse of taking responsibility. All in charge, nobody care.
All in all, what we should do is the fully distinguish the advantages and disadvantages of a concept or widely used method. That is to keep the common sense.

The idea of the lecture and the contents of the given passage contradicted very much. The reading said that wider range of knowledge, expertise and skills of team members may improve team’s performance. But it seemed to generate lot of ego clashes between them. Also, the reading said that a group can work more quickly in response to the task, but here, no consensus was reached for a long time and it took several meetings to come to an agreement. It was also thought that all team members can have their thoughts forwarded, but it was more for the people who were influential that decided the fate of the decision. Also there was no credit given to members of the group when they progressed a lot in a team, as againstr the reading, rather it was considered team effort. There were lot of differences from the reading to the speech. The only thing that seemed to be in correlation between the two were the project’s failure. The whole team was blamed and none of the individuals were pointed out.

First, in a team, those who do not lively participate in the projects could enjoy free time yet gain the benefit from the team’s success as the real contributors do. Second, in contrast to the reading’s claim that a group can work quickly, the study showed that it’s the opposite. That is because it takes extra times to reach consensus and build agreement among members.
In addition, the influencer in the group can ruin the projects. The ideas rejected by the influencer are simply dropped even though other people think it is quite good. The opposite is the same story. If the influencer thinks certain idea is good, then even though other people warn that it might not work, the idea will be the winner.

The results are even worse. It the projects led by the influencer fails, it’s all the members who are blamed.

And lastly, paragraph says that everyone feels responsible for their own part, and all together they are all more effective as a team. In the lecture, doubt was expressed concerning the advantages of the recent trend of forming teams to tackle projects, which was mentioned in the reading.

to begin with, the lecturer argues that although a group tends to have a greater resource of skills and expertise, these resources may not necessarily be effectively used. according to a recent company project, it was found that one or two members dominated over the whole group, when the dominant members asserted or banned an idea, most of the other group members would follow their ideas and “suppress” the other ideas that were suggested, even if the other ideas were more creative and innovative.
secondly, it was proved that, on the contrary of the reading, progress in the project was very slow. this was the result of long debates over reaching a compromise as ideas were diverted and consensus took a lengthy period of time.

thirdly, as a group would be credited collectively, quite a number of unfair situations appeared. in the group. it was found that some members did not work hard at all and got a “free ride”. however, those worked harder were not rewarded for their extra efforts as their individual efforts would not be recognized.
concluding, via the results of a recent company that adopted the “group method” of tackling projects, the lecturer projected doubts that contradicted with the central standpoint of the reading. the lecturer believes that skills and expertise cannot be maximized in a group, progress is slow and the overall results of the team is not a fair assessment of the individual members of the group-which contradicts with the central standpoint of the reading.

The lecturer talks about research conducted by a firm that used the group system to handle their work. He says that the theory stated in the passage was very different and somewhat inaccurate when compared to what happened for real.

First, some members got free rides. That is, some didn't work hard but got recognition for the success nonetheless. This also indicates that people who worked hard was not given recognition they should have got. In other words, they weren't given the opportunity to “shine”. This directly contradicts what the passage indicates.

Second, groups were slow in progress. The passage says that groups are ore responsive than individuals because of the number of people involved and their aggregated resources. However, the speaker talks about how the firm found out that groups were slower than individuals in decision making. Groups needed more time for meetings, which are necessary procedures in decision making. This was another part where experience contradicted theory.

Third, influential people might emerge, and lead the group towards glory or failure. If the influential people are going in the right direction there would be no problem. But in cases where they go in the wrong direction, there is nobody that has enough influence to counter the decision made. In other words, the group might turn into a dictatorship, with the influential party as the leader, and might be less flexible in thinking. They might become one-sided, and thus fail to succeed.

The 20th century made huge steps in developing computer technologies and reached many goals that made our life much easier. What should we expect in the 21st century?

First of all, I think that the pace of our life will speed up: we will move faster from one place to another, from one continent to another using high speed jet airplanes. Second of all, I believe that we will be able to do many things that take much time now without leaving our house. Computers will be everywhere including out clothes. Many people will have chips and mini computers inserted in their heads to hold huge amount of information and have a quick access to it.

But what will be the most amazing thing in the 21st century is the flights to the outer space and Mars that will be available to all people. Scientists say that Mars has many things similar to the Earth's. Moreover, they say that with the help of modern technology people can artificially create conditions that will allow people to live there on the constant basis.

To sum up, I am sure that many amazing changes will be brought by the 21st century. Furthermore, I think that with the help of the contemporary technologies people can do many things that were even difficult to imagine a century ago. So, nowadays it is rather difficult and even impossible to imagine all changes that will happen in the next decades.

I think that everyone can divide all advertising products and services into useless ones and useful ones. It is like looking through an information desk when you pay attention to those messages that interest you. Take me for example.

I do not like jewelry. It does not mean I do not have it at all, I have a couple of inexpensive rings as gifts from my parents. I just think, people pay too much attention to this stuff. I believe it is the result of mass advertising. Every day when I am watching TV, listening to the radio or reading the paper I notice many ads about getting an expensive ring, chain, necklace or ear-rings. From my point of view these kinds of advertising contaminate people's minds. In this case you are encouraged to buy things you do not really need. They make you believe you need such products in order to succeed or be happy.

From the other side, I think that advertisements of the new detergents with up-to-date formulas to help you maintain your cloth in perfect conditions, the new cars with some extra futures that make your traveling more comfortable and sports goods that make your life healthier may help you to improve your life.
Recently my husband and I saw an ad on the Internet about a very interesting and inexpensive vocation to Japan for a week. Is not it awesome? We like traveling. So now we are planning to find out more about it and, may be, make reservations. I belief that without advertisements we would be unaware about plenty of opportunities that may make your life happier, easier and less stressful.

My point is that every person has his own scale of values. So if he is vegetarian he will consider an ad about meat products useless for him.

Cara Mudah Mengerjakan Structure TOEFL  

Bagi kebanyakan orang, belajar structure atau grammar TOEFL ITP membutuhkan waktu yang lama, mereka menghabiskan waktu 2-3 bulan untuk mempelajari salahsatu skill di TOEFL ITP ini.  tentunya ini belum termasuk skill yang lain seperti reading dan listening. Jadi kemungkin anda memerlukan waktu 1 tahun hanya untuk pesiapan mengambil program TOEFL ITP. Satu tahun.... waktu yang sangat lama bukan? Namun jangan kawatir, dengan pengalaman, trik dan metode yang tepat, anda hanya membutuhkan waktu 2-3 minggu minggu saja untuk menguasai semua skill dalam TOEFL ITP - listening, structure dan reading.
Dalam tulisan ini saya akan fokus pada structure TOEFL ITP, baru kemudian  saya akan membahas skill-skill yang lain. Yang perlu anda ketahui bahwa tidak semua grammar yang pernah anda pelajari di sekolah, tempat kursus atau dalam sebuah buku akan keluar dalam structure Toefl Itp. Dalam tulusan ini saya akan coba sajikan beberapa clues dalam menjawab pertanyaan dalam TOEFL ITP.

Hal pertama yang perlu anda ketehui adalah bagaimana mengindentifikasi subject dalam sebauah kalimat, ini adalah modal dasar sebelum kita mambahas hal-hal yang lain. Terdapat enam jenis kata yang dapat menjad subject, sebagai berikut:  

1.    Children need vitamins    
Apa yang anda pahami dari kalimat diatas?? Ya tepat sekali bila anda berfikir children dalam kalimat diatas adalah subjek. Jadi, yang perlu anda pahami adalah kawan-kawannya children J. Children dalam kalimat diatas disebut juga Noun. Noun adalah kata benda. Jadi bagi anda yang belum tau apa itu noun, don’t think to hard, noun adalah kata benda seperti book (buku) atau poeple (orang-orang) dan ini dapat berfungsi sebagai subject disebuah kalimat. Ini contoh lainnya: Scientists are now only begining to understand the factors causing cigarette adiction. Jadi dalam kalimat ini yang menjadi subject adalah Scientists, karena scientists adalah orang yang jumlahnya lebih dari satu, maka Verb atau kata kernjanya bertemu dengan are. Easy kan?       


2.    The man took a vitamin pill
Bagaimana dengan kalimat yang kedua ini? Yang menjadi subjek dalam kalimat ini adalah the man dan verb-nya adalah tookJadi bila nanti anda melihat thea dan an diikuti dengan noun atau kata benda  dalam sebuah pertanyaan di structure dan written expression, itu adalah subjek dalam kalimat tersebut. Contoh lainnya adalah: The first pizza restaurant opened in New York City in 1895. Subjek dalam contoh kalimat diatas adalah The firts pizza restaurant dan verb-nya adalah Opened.

3.    She wrote a book
Untuk yang satu ini, saya rasa anda sudah mengetahuinya. Yup, subjek dalam kaliam diatas adalah sheShe dalam kalimat diatas disebut juga pronoun (kata ganti) seperti “I, you, they, we, she, he dan it”. Apabila anda bingung dengan istilah pronoun, cukup dipahami jika anda melihat “I, you, they, we, she, he dan it” dalam sebuah kalimat dipertanyaan structure atau written expression TOEFL ITP berarti itu adalah subjek dalam kalimat rersebut.

4.    What they wrote amazed everyone.
Bagaimana dengan kalimat yang ini, sudah mulai bingung? Take it easy guys.  Dalam kalimat ini yang menjadi subjek adalah what they wrote dan verb-nya adalah amazed. What they wrote dalam kalimat ini menjadi sebuah kesatuan, dan inilah yang disebut dengan noun clause. Agar anda lebih paham saya berikan contoh lain seperti: What they know is the truth. Subjek Dalam kalimat ini adalah What they know dan verb-nya adalah isWhere you eat is the favorite restaurant. Dalam kalimat ini, Where you eat adalah sebagai subjek dan is adalah verb.               

5.    Writing books was her hobby
Subjek dalam kalimat ini adalah Writing dan verb-nya adalah was. Jadi verb+ing atau katakerja yang ada tambahan ing bisa menjadi subjek dalam sebuah kalimat.  untuk lebih jelas nya perhatikan contoh sebagai berikut : 

  1. Reading novel is my hobby.
  2. Singing a song was may favorite activities when I got stress.   
6.    To write a book needs patience
Hal terahir yang perlu anda ketahui adalah To+verb dapat menjadi subjek dalam sebuah kalimat. Jadi subjek dalam kalimat diatas adalah to write dan verb-nya adalah needs. Untuk lebih jelasnya saya berikan beberapa contoh sebagai berikut: to write good essay needs great idea, to study TOEFL ITP needs best course.

Oleh karena itu, disebelah kiri dari clausa Who harus orang seperti contoh yang ada dalam tabel diatas disebelah kiri Who adalah English Learner. Clausa who diatas juga dapat berperan sebagai subjek, oleh karena itu, sebelah kanan dari clause who diatas adalah verb prepares.
Jadi, yang perlu ditekankan di clue yang kedua ini adalah disebelah kiri Who adalah people atau orang dan sebelah kanannya dari Who adalah verb atau kata kerja.
            Setelah anda membaca dan memahai penjelasan saya diatas, saya harap anda dapat dengan mudah menjawab contoh structure TOEFL I  ITP sebagai berikut:

Pada contoh soal diatas, terdapat kata person sebelum blank, sedangkan dalam pilahan A, B dan C terdapat Verb atau kata kerja, D tidak terdapat subjek dan verb. Sehingga anda memerlukan clause maker untuk menghubungkan verb yang ada. Pilihan A adalah yang paling tepat karena terdapat clause maker who dan setelah itu terdapat Verb are. Gampang bukan?

Jadi anda cukup mengidentifikasi manakah verb yang tepat untuk clause maker who dalam soal tersebut dan verb yang paling tepat dalam contoh yang kedua diatas adalah C. Work.

Clause maker berikutnya yang saya perkenalkan adalah Whose. Clause maker ini tetap khusus digunakan untuk orang namun berfungsi sebagai possessive (kepimilikan). Sehingga apabila anda perhatikan contoh pada table diatas, anda akan menemukan Noun (kata benda) sebagai Noun yang dimiliki Yodi (subjek dalam kalimat tersebut).   
            Contoh dalam tabel diatas sebenarnya gabungan dari dua kalimat sebagai berikut:

2.    Irja borrow his book
